Sierra Madre’s Village Church (Ascension) will be holding its annual “Blessing of the Animals” service on Oct. 7 at 11:45 a.m. in the Outdoor Worship Area. There will also be free pet sitting during the 10:15 a.m. service.

Blessing of the Animals is conducted in commemoration of the Oct. 4 feast day of St. Francis of Assisi. According to most accounts, St. Francis was particularly fond of animals of all breeds.

The community is invited to take their animals, no matter how big or small, breed or religion. Some animals may require a leash or a container, so keep that in mind. There will be cookies, lemonade, and dog treats provided.

The Episcopal Church of the Ascension is located at 25 E. Laurel Ave. in Sierra Madre. Call (626) 355-1133 if you have any questions.
