Saying ” At home, the stars come out at night”…Ringo Starr said Monday night. He added it was great to get his Star on the Walk of Fame Monday night.
Celebrated drummer and former Beatle, Ringo Starr was honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame during a ceremony that also marked the 50th anniversary of the tourist attraction’s groundbreaking.
Starr’s name was the 2,401st to be unveiled on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
Eagles guitarist Joe Walsh, as well as, singer-songwriter Ben Harper and actress-wife Barbara Bach sharred the spot light. Walsh added a terrific punch to the line up of celebrities honoring Starr. Then came the Mayor of Los Angeles who was almost booed off- stage – the hundreds of Beatle fans showed their disapproval for the mayor in no uncertain terms, and the mayor kept his remarks very brief accordingly.
Starr’s star is near the stars of his late Beatle bandmembers, John Lennon and George Harrison.
Starr was born Richard Starkey Jr. on July 7, 1940 in Liverpool, England. . While performing in Hamburg, Starr met McCartney and Lennon who asked him to join the band in August 1962, replacing Pete Best.
Following The Beatles breakup in 1970, Starr had a solo career, including releasing his 16th studio album, “Y Not,” last month; performed on other artists’ albums; toured 10 times with Ringo Starr & His All-Starr Band; acted in a variety of films; and was the narrator for the children’s series “Thomas the Tank Engine & Friends.”
The Hollywood Walk of Fame’s anniversary celebration will continue throughout the year with a festival in July and a huge gala party in November in which every living celebrity who has ever received a star will be invited to attend.
