55 Square Miles Burn in Hills Above Pasadena – Health Dept Issues Hazardous Air Quality Warning for Los Angels Basin
The massive Sation Firefire has burned numerous outbuildings in Altadena, north of Pasadena and at least three homes. The fire has burned 60 year old vegetation and forced hundreds of evacuations

The blaze was only about 5 percent contained Sunday morning and had scorched 55 square miles in the Angeles National Forest. Evacuations were in effect for neighborhoods in Glendale, Pasadena and other cities and towns north of Los Angeles.
The fire threatened Mount Wilson, where many broadcast and communications antennas as well as the observatory can be found. Flames were, at one point, within two miles of said observatory.

Humidity was very low and temperatures are in the triple digits. Mandatory evacuations were also in effect for neighborhoods in Altadena and for the communities of Acton, La Canada Flintridge, La Crescenta and Big Tujunga Canyon.

There was some progress Sunday, as a small number of La Canada Flintridge residents living west of the Arroyo Seco were told they could go back to their homes.
