It’s Official: Shaw Holds On, Takes Council Seat by 25 Votes

official counters13 One week after Monrovia’s mayoral and city council election left voters unsure of just who their new city council members would be, a Tuesday afternoon count of 185 provisional and vote-by-mail ballots saw Clarence Shaw edge out Becky Shevlin by 25 votes, adding two to the 23 vote lead he has held for the past week.

With workers from Martin and Chapman on hand to run Monrovia’s ballot counting machine, city officials, reporters and candidate supporters listened as City Clerk Linda Proctor read the results by precinct as they were counted.

For the office of member of the city council, the vote totals, which won’t be certified until the May 5th city council meeting, are listed below. The top two vote-getters will assume the two vacant seats, with the seat vacated by newly elected Mayor Mary Ann Lutz still left to be assigned, elected or ignored.
