With temperatures rising this summer, fire is a top safety concern in San Gabriel Valley.
Firefighters were able to fully contain the fire in La Verne by Sunday evening . It was a 100-acre brush fire in the valley above the Marshall Canyon Golf Course. The golf course, located at 6100 N. Stephens Ranch Rd, had closed because of the fire.
The fire was believed to be a work of arson and began around 4 pm Sunday, July 12 . Within four hours the fire had reached a span of 100 acres. While no evacuations took place, the fire did threaten some homes and residents were told to stay indoors. 130 firefighters fought the flames with additional help from helicopters that brought water from the Live Oak Reservoir.
The Marshall Canyon offers beautiful mountain biking and equestrian trails that are very popular. It appears that the fire might have burned on some of the trails.
