Hiker Identified after Fatal Accident

Arturo Hernandez, a 24 year old resident of Pasadena, has been identified as the hiker found dead by rescuers in Eaton Canyon last week, coroner’s officials report. Hernandez, who had been hiking Tuesday morning, June 30, 2009, fell 200 feet to his death. The cause of death has been reported to be severe head trauma.

Hernandez fell while descending from a waterfall in a dangerous part of Eaton Canyon in the San Gabriel Mountains. 22 firefighters and search and rescue officials extracted the body after Jesse Hernandez, 17, who had been hiking with Arturo, sought help using a cell phone belonging to someone from another group of hikers.
