Letters to Editor April 22

Letters to the Editor:

I mailed in my absentee ballot before flying out of town, and appreciate the City of Sierra Madre, sierramadreweekly.com, and other local media, for enabling me to stay in touch with this pivotal election on line. I really regret being away and missing the joy of celebrating the outcome with the like-minded majority!
I’m very proud of the dignified campaigns that the victors ran. I wouldn’t call the wide margin of the final numbers a “landslide,” but like the human immune system attacking bacteria, viruses, and other parasites, Sierra Madre voters went to the polls and decisively tossed the invading Contrarians out with the trash. The election was, in every sense, a mudslide. We can all breathe a collective sigh of relief and get back to being the treasure that is Sierra Madre.

In no particular order:
Kurt Zimmerman = John Crawford = The Tattler = Irrelevant = MaryAnn MacGillivray = Don Watts. Period.

Scott H. says:

Kudos to Joe, Josh and Nancy — Hooray for Sierra Madre!

Ron Cooper says:

This is just fabulous ~ Congratulations to all the amazing winners! I’m proud to be part of this great city and the dignified win!

Now that Crawford lost by a landslide, he is being a poor loser. He did not have a plan for any of the issues or for his campaign. He was reactionary in all of his writing and never took a proactive approach to solving the issues at hand in Sierra Madre. Leaders show that they will be proactive more often than reactive to situations. By not having a clear plan for his campaign and for the city, he planned to fail, and that is exactly what happened.
The best thing to do with this guy now is to ignore him. Stop reading his blog; stop commenting on him. He is truly irrelevant in Sierra Madre politics. He will continue to rant and rave about anyone who disagrees with him. Let him have his corner of lunatic supporters. He will never have the support of enough people to truly make an impact in Sierra Madre. His true colors have really shown after his huge loss. Crawford is the new “Eagle” in town.
Enjoy life and look for the positive in everyone.
On a side note, a blog is not a news source. This is the exact definition of a blog:
“an online diary; a personal chronological log of thoughts published on a Web page”

I completely understand that no two people agree to the facts of a given event. I have a couple of examples: Where the tattlers saw a “liar”, I saw a council member who said we should continue putting together a DSP and vote when we have something to vote on; where the tattlers accuse me to be an underhanded, scheming, rich developer with conspiratorial connections, the fact is that I am actually an unemployed, tuition poor, family-oriented community volunteer.
I get that there are two sides to every story. What’s missing from the tattlers is respect for another’s opinion. Stop tattling, Tattlers. Stop calling people a dirt or a DIC and snicker at your clever double entendre. Stop trying to raise yourself up by putting others down. It’s juvenile.
The fact that Mr. Crawford’s opinions did not captured him a council seat (at least it made him come out from under his “Sir Erik” rock) demonstrates that in Sierra Madre, respect for each others opinion wins out over tattling on your neighbor.

I am planning to move to Sierra Madre and have been reading all the local political sites to get an idea about the town.
To be honest, I haven’t seen any of these online publications behaving respectfully, or discussing the facts. Neither have I seen that with the print media.
Your opponents and their voters do live in Sierra Madre. They are your citizens and your neighbors. If you disagree with what they are saying, then disagree respectfully. If they lose poorly, then win gracefully. Counter what they are saying with facts, not opinions, and certainly not your opinion on their character.
If the tone of the people who comment is not to your liking, then quote the specific comments and respond to them rationally and thoughtfully, even if the comments are irrational.
Elevating the dialogue, building bridges, restoring civility starts with each of us as individuals. And if this election was won because of a hope to return to civility, then, as the winners, you must take the high road and start that process.
It is never okay to respond to bad behaviour with bad behaviour.

I was disappointed to learn that Crawford’s blog was back up, and not surprised by his lack of humility. He is shameless. After all the warnings he issued to his followers about watching for sign thieves during the campaign, he admits to doing it himself in the comments today. He has an unbelievable lack of good sense, and clearly no filters. I only disagree with your opening line. I think it is absolutely safe to go back into the streets. Civility and common sense have prevailed over all of Crawford’s mudslinging. The election results are a resounding dismissal of his propaganda.
